My initial idea for building my electric quad vehicle (ATV) was born after I watched the TV shows
"Junkyard war" and "Monster Garage".
I like to work with the deep cycles batteries, it's a real passion in my life.
I found a website www.didik.com which help me to design my EV and I started to build the project.
My electric quad is 63 inchs long, 38 inchs wide, 36 inchs height and the weight is 220 pounds.
The frame is build from the EMT electric pipes (1 inch diameter), and I bolted it without any welding.
The powertrain consists of a 7/8" solid steel axle driven by 2 sprokets, a chain #40, a jackshaft,
a manual clutch (belt and bender type), a belt 4L440, and a DC motor.
The motor (permanent magnet, 1HP, 24 volts DC, 41 amps) is energized by 2
deep cycles (marine flooded) batteries.
The main battery (marine flooded, deep cycle, 12 volts 120 a/h) energize
the motor, the relays, acc, and the head light.
The secondary battery (marine flooded, deep cycle, 12 volts 75 a/h) energize
the motor in the 24 volts mode only.
The controller consists of 4 solenoids which switch the motor to 12 volts (1 battery) or 24 volts.
